Privacy Policy
ScreenShark (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is built to help you spend less time on distracting apps and more time on what matters. We take privacy seriously because the whole point of the app is to give you control over your own attention, and we couldn’t do that credibly while harvesting your data.
The short version
- Your Screen Time data never leaves your device.ScreenShark uses Apple’s Family Controls / Screen Time framework, which is designed so that the list of apps you use, the apps you choose to block, and your usage patterns stay encrypted on your iPhone. We literally cannot see them.
- We collect anonymous product analytics (which buttons you tap, how far through onboarding you get) so we can improve the app.
- Subscription billing is handled by Apple. We use RevenueCat to know whether your subscription is active. Neither we nor RevenueCat ever see your payment details.
- We don’t sell your data, run ads, or share information with advertisers.
Information we collect
1. Information that stays on your device
The list of apps you choose to block, the durations you set, allowance windows, and any usage statistics shown in the app are all derived from Apple’s Family Controls framework. This data is encrypted on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party. Apple specifically designed these APIs to prevent app developers from accessing this information.
2. Anonymous product analytics
We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous events about how the app is used. This includes:
- Which onboarding screens you view and how far you progress
- When the paywall is shown and whether a purchase is started, completed, cancelled, or fails
- When a block is created (and aggregate properties: number of apps, duration, whether allowance is enabled)
- When the app is opened
Each install is identified by a randomly-generated anonymous user ID. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or any other personal identifier in our analytics.
3. Subscription state
We use RevenueCat to manage subscription state. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user ID, your App Store receipt for ScreenShark only, and the subscription status (active / lapsed). All actual payment is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy; we never receive or store your payment method, address, or full name.
Information we do not collect
- Personally identifying information (name, email, phone)
- Location
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera
- Browsing history outside the apps you choose to block
- Advertising identifiers
Third parties
- Mixpanel — anonymous product analytics
- RevenueCat — subscription state management
- Apple — App Store distribution and payment processing under their own privacy policy
We do not share data with anyone else, and we do not sell data to anyone.
Data retention
Anonymous analytics events are retained for up to 12 months and then deleted. Subscription state is retained for as long as your subscription is active and for a reasonable period after to handle refunds and customer support.
Your rights
Because we don’t collect personally identifying information, we typically cannot link analytics events back to you specifically. If you want all analytics data associated with your install deleted, email us at support@screenshark.iowith your anonymous user ID (visible in the app’s settings, when available) and we will purge it within 30 days.
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your iPhone’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or via your Apple ID account on the web.
Children’s privacy
ScreenShark is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify users via the app.
